Victron Energy VDI-16 Galvanic Isolator | GDI000016000
The Victron Energy VDI-16 Galvanic Isolator protects your boat’s underwater metal components from electrolytic corrosion. It works by blocking low-voltage DC currents that can enter through the shore power earth wire, which may otherwise cause damage to the hull, propeller, shaft, and other submerged metals.
Key Features:
Prevents Electrolytic Corrosion: Stops unwanted DC currents from traveling through the shore power connection.
High-Quality Protection: Safeguards critical underwater metals such as propellers and shafts from gradual corrosion.
Smart Diode Design:
Contains two anti-parallel diodes that block DC currents below approximately 1.4 Vdc.
Allows higher AC fault currents to pass through, ensuring proper circuit breaker operation.
Easy Installation: Mounts directly behind your boat’s 230V shore power connection.
Automatic Operation: Works continuously without maintenance or manual control.
How It Works:
When shore power is connected, the isolator’s diodes block galvanic DC voltages that are lower than 1.4 Vdc, preventing electrolysis. If a higher fault voltage occurs, the diodes conduct and allow current to flow, enabling the residual-current device (RCD) to trip safely and protect the onboard system.
