3M™ Thinsulate™ SM600L Acoustic & Thermal Van Insulation | Vehicle Insulation

This high-performance automotive insulation is designed for camper vans and conversion builds, combining thermal efficiency, sound dampening, and moisture resistance in a lightweight, flexible material. It helps create a quieter, better-insulated interior while maintaining airflow balance and long-term durability.

FEATURES

  • Premium 3M™ SM600L insulation engineered for vehicle applications
  • Combines thermal insulation + acoustic noise reduction
  • Expands to approximately 1 3/4" (44 mm) for full cavity coverage
  • Non-woven fiber structure provides effective sound absorption
  • Hydrophobic fibers resist moisture, mold and mildew
  • Lightweight design reduces overall build weight
  • Flexible material conforms to irregular van cavities and panels
  • Does not exert pressure on trim or interior panels when expanded
  • Designed for use with vapor barrier systems for full insulation packages

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Width: 60"
  • Coverage: 1 linear foot ≈ 5 sq. ft.
  • Compressed thickness: ~3/4"–1"
  • Expanded thickness: ~44 mm (1 3/4"), up to ~2" in open cavities
  • Certification: FMVSS 302 compliant (vehicle fire safety standard)
  • Expansion behavior: self-expanding, pressure-free fill material

INSTALLATION

  • Recommended adhesive: 3M 90 Spray Adhesive
  • Install in compressed state, then allow natural expansion in place
  • Expansion occurs gradually through heat, vibration, and time
  • Best results when paired with DUCK Liner or vapor barrier systems
